Funding Comes at Critical Time for Youth Athlete Safety

MINNEAPOLIS (March 23, 2022)Players Health announced today the close of a $28 million funding round to further its mission of creating safer and more accessible environments for kids to play the sports that they love. The revolutionary youth sports technology platform’s lead investors for this round of funding include three-time NBA Champion Andre Iguodala’s firm Mastry Ventures, and global specialty insurer and reinsurer SiriusPoint Ltd (NYSE: SPNT). In addition to Mastry and SiriusPoint, current investors; RPM Ventures, EOS Venture Partners, and Will Ventures also contributed to the latest round of funding.

Players Health uses state-of-the-art technology, unique data insights, and risk management, along with a comprehensive suite of insurance products, to help protect young athletes and give them safe places to play the sports that they love. With over 400,000 amateur sports organizations and 45 million children playing an organized sport in the U.S. there is a large need for an organization to step up and put the safety and wellness of athletes first. Players Health is currently working with several thousand insurance customers, including organizations such as U.S. Youth Soccer, NFL Flag Football, i9 Sports, and USA Cheer.

“These investments further our mission to create a safe haven in at least one corner of a child’s world,” said Tyrre Burks, Players Health founder and chief executive officer. “By expanding our partnerships, we expand the roster of guardians and the safety net of accountability for the increasing number of youth athletes.”

The recent funding will enable Players Health to continue to invest in technology and people to expand and enhance athlete safety and insurance offerings for sports organizations.

"Partners like SiriusPoint and Mastry are helping make a positive impact on the youth sports market at a critical moment for athlete safety,” said Naveen Anand, Players Health group president. “Their support will enable us to continue to bridge the gap between risk management and insurance through intuitive, accessible technology partnered with a comprehensive suite of insurance products.”

Current offerings from Players Health include coaching and staff credentialing; education and training; abuse reporting and investigations; and a full suite of relevant insurance products including General Liability, Accident & Health, Professional liability and Property, as well as claims reporting. With athlete safety as a cornerstone, the organization continually monitors trends and developments across games and the industry to adapt to the ever-changing needs tied to athlete’s safety.
